[Video] Interview with Ben Askew, PhD. on ACT and Acting
Dr. Askew teaches acting in the UK and combines traditional acting instruction with ACT and the ACT Matrix.
I recently sat down with Ben Askew, PhD., whose recently published article focuses on using the ACT Matrix to analyze Shakespeare’s character Hamlet. You can find that article here - https://doi.org/10.1080/20567790.2022.2116153
Ben discusses his work teaching acting students using ACT and the ACT Matrix to help them stay on top of their own mental health as well as understand and embody the characters they are playing.
Benjamin Askew is an acting teacher, writer, and director, with a background as a professional actor. Having led the teaching of Theatre Analysis at Drama Centre London for over six years, he now teaches and directs regularly at Manchester School of Theatre and has recently been a guest practitioner at LAMDA, Oxford School of Drama, and York St John University. He is the founder and director of The Working Action Group, an acting studio and creative research community exploring links between contemporary psychology and psychophysical theatre practice, and he is the originator of the ACT for Acting project. He received his doctorate from Central Saint Martins and is a certified ACT Matrix facilitator.
