Free 2-hr Webinar Recording | How To Conduct Great Intakes With the ACT Matrix
In this webinar I demonstrate my ACT Matrix intake protocol.
Hey there, thank you so much for making a little room for me in your inbox.
Check out this free recording of a webinar I did a few weeks ago (Jan 2021) on how to conduct great intakes using the ACT Matrix. It’s a 2-hour workshop that I did through ECare Behavioral Health Institute, and if you want CEUs for it you can find it on their website here (for pay, although I don’t get any cut of it). If you just want to watch and learn my intake method, as well as my thoughts on intakes generally just hit play!

A little history on my intake method
Intakes are my favorite part of working with clients. There’s something about introducing myself, setting the context, and establishing the foundation for the kind of work we are going to do together that just makes me feel like I’m doing something right. I learned how to set a good foundation and expectations for therapy way back in my intern years working at The Children’s Bereavement Center of South Texas running support groups for kids and families. You see, when you are in a room full of 6-year olds you have no choice but to really take control of those early moments of a session.
After I left that job I worked at another non-profit and ran a satellite office all by myself. It was around then that I discovered the ACT matrix for the first time and started to integrate it into my work. Over my time working there I developed the system that you will see in this video. I can’t imagine doing therapy without starting this way.
You can also find a written version of this method on my site.

P.S.
I’ll be hopping on Zoom to talk about the similarities, differences, and harmony between the ACT Matrix and the Choice Point on Feb. 22nd at 10:00am Central US Time. So many people confuse the two models, or indeed don’t know what the difference is and wonder why one exists when the other does things perfectly well.
The discussion will be recorded and posted in a future Monday post. There’s no specific end time for this meeting. Maybe 30 minutes? Maybe an hour?
